Video Content Guidelines

Topical Relevance: A video's content must relate directly to the Springer publication to which it is associated.

Accurate Descriptions: A video's title, summary, and keywords should accurately describe the content of the video. Misrepresentation is not permissible.

Consideration of Copyright: A video should not contain any copyrighted material, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted videos, or excerpts from publications, without authroization.

Respect for Privacy: The video should not reveal anyone's personal or private information.

Appropriateness of Content: Videos containing any of the following will be rejected: sexually explicit material, graphic or gratuitous violence, hateful or slanderous speech, threatening or intimidating behavior, or content that encourages dangerous or illegal activities.

Submission must also conform to the YouTube Community Guidelines.

Video Preparation Instructions

We recommend that all video submissions should conform to the following specifications. Videos.Springer.com can accept almost any video format for upload, but for most users we have found the following settings give the best results:

  • Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred
  • Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ration without letterboxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9)
  • Resolution: 640x360 (16:9) or 480x360 (4:3) recommended
  • Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred
  • Frames per second: 30
  • Maximum length: 10 minutes (we recommend 2-3 minutes)
  • Maximum file size: 1GB

What do I need to upload a video?

In addition to a video file, you will need to select a Springer publication to which your video will be associated. Once you have found a publication, you will need to locate that publication's numerical identifier:

  • For books, an ISBN or eISBN;
  • For journals and book series, an ISSN or eISSN;
  • For journal articles and books chapters a DOI number.

In each case, this information can be found by searching for the publication within www.springer.com or www.springerlink.com

Is there a video review process?

Each submission will be reviewed by a member of Springer's editorial department for compliance with Springer's video content guidelines and preparation instructions. These instructions can be found on this page.

Where can I view my video?

Accepted videos will be made available both on videos.springer.com and also on the SpringerVideos YouTube channel
